As both a business owner and attorney with over 30 years of transactional experience, I purchased my Sunbelt franchises because I wanted to provide sellers and buyers the most professional, experienced, and ethical business brokerage advice available. I bring to the Sunbelt brokerage team both a practical and legal perspective on the sale and purchase of a business.

My background includes significant business ownership experience. I started, built, and sold four businesses of my own prior to purchasing Sunbelt. The businesses I founded and later sold included a manufacturing operation that was grossing over $5,000,000 at the time of sale. I also owned and operated a coast-to-coast trucking company, an import company, and a national independent sales representative organization. As president of each company, I personally experienced many of the same concerns realized by sellers and buyers of any small business. Being responsible for the day-to-day operations of those businesses as well as all the details associated with the sale of each company provided me a similar perspective to the process as realized by our clients.

Born and raised in the Midwest, I recognize the strong work ethic required to successfully own and operate a small business. Prior to joining the Sunbelt team as a business broker, I managed a small business for years and later owned and operated two separate small businesses for over twenty years. I have been both a buyer and seller. With the unique perspective of having been on both sides of the deal, I understand how difficult it can be to evaluate a business. When listing a business, I bring to the table a variety of resources that allow me, together with the seller, to determine what the business is truly worth including how financing issues may come to bear on the sale price.

I received my education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and my background includes many years operating a family farm as well as working as a licensed commodities broker in western Nebraska. I am currently also a state senator for Nebraska’s 44th District. Through the years and through my travels, I have come to meet so many successful folks with exceptional business backgrounds.

I thoroughly enjoy connecting with people across the state and I am delighted to be working closely with sellers and buyers from a wide variety of businesses, assisting them with timely and suitable transitions to new ownership. I was born and raised on a family farm in the upper Midwest, so I know first-hand the tireless effort that goes into owning and successfully operating a closely-held business. My background includes ten years in the United States Air Force working in the field of computer technology as well as working as a technology consultant for two Fortune 500 companies. Through those experiences, I gained a deep appreciation for the importance of confidentiality. My practical experience as the owner/operator of two start-up businesses also adds depth to my broad business background. The diversity of my experience allows me to relate well with clients from all different business environments. Born and raised in Nebraska, my Midwestern roots instilled in me the value of a solid work ethic as well as a genuine appreciation for helping others reach their goals. Serving as Administrative Assistant to the team at Sunbelt is a very fast-paced endeavor. I bring to the position significant experience in public relations, as well as a keen eye to the details of effective office administration. I am responsible for managing the business brokerage listing information both internally and externally, including publishing listing information on multiple websites. I assist the president, as well as the entire team, with the day-to-day details of selling or buying a business through Sunbelt.

I welcome the opportunity to meet new people each day, whether it is over the telephone, through e-mail communication, or in person. Assuring accuracy and maintaining confidentiality on behalf of our clients is paramount. Coordinating the delivery of support services for the entire brokerage team can be challenging, but I enjoy making a positive impact on the outcome for the ultimate benefit of our clients.

Before joining the Sunbelt business brokerage team, I served as regional sales manager for a Fortune 500 company. My job was to work with authorized distributors and vendors to help them manage the many issues they faced in their businesses. Those unique experiences with diverse business owners have given me a valuable perspective. I also spent nine years in real estate finance, which afforded me the knowledge and skills necessary to concisely explain to both buyers and sellers the ramifications of the financial decisions they will need to make during the process. An entrepreneur at heart, I have also built an Internet business, giving me personal knowledge of the challenges faced when taking over a business and rebuilding it.

Years of experience has taught me the tremendous value in keeping a cool head when problems arise. I am able to help my clients sort through the ups and down of the process to arrive at clear and logical solutions to any problems that may occur.

With over fifteen years of business experience, including seven years in marketing, I am delighted to be a member of the Sunbelt of Omaha team assisting clients with the buying and selling of their businesses in a highly professional and experienced environment. As Marketing Assistant, I have the pleasure of serving the organization in a capacity that often affords me the distinct opportunity to be the initial point of contact, engaging business owners in a dialogue to explore their potential interest in selling their business. It is not uncommon to discover that the business owner may not be interested in selling at the present time, but may actually be looking to expand by acquiring a complementary business.

It is helpful to share with business owners the depth of our expertise as well as the breadth of services our team can provide. I truly enjoy the fascinating conversations with entrepreneurs throughout the area. On behalf of Sunbelt, I am delighted to visit with many wonderful business owners every day about what is most important to them and their business. Through our discussions, we discover how our team can help them reach their goals.

Throughout the years, I have truly enjoyed living and working in central Nebraska. I received my degree in business from Kearney State College (University of Nebraska-Kearney). After college, I joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) serving as a commissioned bank examiner for seven years. I left the FDIC to begin work at a local community bank and within two years was promoted to bank president. I served in that capacity for 25 years. During my years at the bank, I built key relationships with many folks in the surrounding communities. I have met with hundreds of business owners and I am intimately familiar with a wide variety of lending vehicles, including Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. During my tenure at the bank, I served on the board of the Nebraska Bankers Association. Also, I am a licensed real estate appraiser.

Beyond my banking experience, I have been involved in a variety of business and community organizations such as the local Chamber of Commerce, the Sherman County Economic Development Board, and the Valley County Health System Foundation.

I am delighted to join Sunbelt of Nebraska serving sellers and buyers of small businesses in the central portion of our great state. As a seasoned banker, I recognize the many nuances of small business operations and finance, thereby bringing valuable perspective and extensive expertise to bear on the many details of the process.
